Bogata Rodeo

Well this past weekend was THE BIG EVENT in Bogata. The Rodeo! I didn't make it to all three nights like times past, and Emma and Clinton didn't go at all...I know, why not? Well, it was like a thousand degrees outside, so I didn't want to drag Emma out and Clinton had to work... poor thing works all the time.

I did go Saturday night. But did I sit in the stands with the familia and watch the festivities? Nope. I was working the concession stand. I did it to help out Andrea and the rest of Country Home Care. Let me just say, they owe me...they owe me big. It was like I said 1,000 degrees outside, and hotter in that building! I dipped cheese. Everything had cheese on it... I don't want to talk about it anymore. Too tramatic.

Want to see the cutest cowboy at the rodeo, scratch that. The cutest cowboy in the whole wide world...

Sick Baby Update #2

She certainly doesn't act like a sick baby anymore, but Emma had to go back to the doctor today for a check-up. Her ear is still infected. It is better than it was Saturday. Dr. Bradshaw said on a scale of 1 to 10 (1= good, 10= really, really bad), her right ear is a 6, the left is a 2. He said that it must have been 8 to 9 on Saturday for them to have given her a shot. So he prescribed a new antibiotic that won't hurt her tummy and some ear drops. We have to go back AGAIN once she is done with this round of medicine. But the doctor did say, she looked good in yellow! She was wearing a yellow dress.
We went to Wal-Mart to get her medicine and spent an hour in there waiting! Emma enjoyed herself though...

Clinton's First Father's Day

Before I even start I am just going to say that Yes I am a bad mother. I did not take a picture of Clinton and Emma together on Father's Day. So... I took one today! LOL!

Emma! Don't eat the card!

Yay! Happy Father's Day, Daddy!

Yes, we actually gave him his cards (and iTunes card) on Father's Day. And yes, we cheaped out and that's all we got him. But he wouldn't have had it any other way!

We went down to Jason & Andrea's on the day to celebrate. Jason cooked frog legs (eww) and fish. Andrea (or Jason, I'm not sure) boiled some yummy shrimp that Clinton and I had brought back from Baton Rouge. It was a good time.
The dad's in attendance were:

Pete Belcher (Tim's dad-Trishia, Jason, & my grandpa, see Tim's grandkids for the greats...)
Tim Belcher (Trishia, Jason, & my dad- Alex, Jalyn, Bradyn, Kirk, Kamryn, & Emma's grandpa)
Bill Boggs (Andrea & Brittney's dad- Alex, Kirk, & Kinsley's grandpa)
Jason Killian (Alex & Kirk's dad)
Clinton (Emma's dad- 1st timer)
David Crawford (Kinsley's dad- 1st timer)

Disclaimer: Yes, Pete has other children and many more grandkids...I'm just mentioning the ones in attendance...because we are the only ones that count! J/K LOL!
Anyway, Emma was super cute (isn't she always) and got to play with Kinsley who is 1 month older than her. Here are some pics...

Sick Baby Update & Emma Milestones

Sick Baby Update

Even after the dr. gave her antibiotics (and she seemed brand new...for like a minute!), Emma kept running fever and just wasn't feeling good. I called the "Pedi-Mom" on Thursday and she said to wait a few more days to see if the anitibiotics would work & if by Saturday morning things weren't better, then go back to the dr. So this a.m., I called and got her in to see the PA. My poor baby's ear infection was not any better, so she had to have a shot!!! Here she is showing off her boo-boo.

I felt really bad for Emmy, so OF COURSE I had to get her some feel better presents! Notice she is not in this picture actually playing with the feel better presents! Anyway, so far so good. She seems (again seems!) like she feels better. We go back to the dr. on Wednesday! Hopefully we will get a good report!

Emma Milestones

Emma is a super good crawler now!! Oh yes she is. Her most favorite place to crawl to and check out in our house is...

The Vent

Crawling towards me :) ... and away :(...

Earlier this week, Emma pulled up to a stand on a pillow I had stuffed next to the computer desk to keep her out of stuff (I have a picture but its stuck on my BlackBerry and I haven't figured out how to recover it yet!!!). But that was more of a "lean" than a "stand".... today, I put her in her cage (aka: the Pack n' Play). Emma got really mad at me and wanted me to get her out of the cage asap, but I was busy trying not to clean house, so I just told her tough (sure I did). Anyway, with me watching with disbelief, she did this....

It was a struggle, but she made it, hollering the whole time. She stood there crying and, NO LIE, stamping her foot until I picked her up.

Oh yeah! Emma is an artist (already)! She put her had up just in time to block the flash to make this picture really cool...

If Little Kids Ruled the World

In July's Parents magazine, there was the funniest thing... seriously I laughed so hard I cried... so I'm going to copy it here for you....

"Dear Mom and Dad,
Thank you for your interest in remaining my parents. Below is a list of my demands.

The Toddler Contract

I. FOOD
1. For breakfast, there will be only milk from my sippy cup while I'm watching television (see Section II).
2. From breakfast until what you probably call lunch, I will be provided with an unending supply of cookies. No arguments.
3. For lunch I will eat yogurt. Anything containing fruit on the bottom will make me pick out the fruit and throw it on the ground or else will throw it up on your carpet.
a. So no fruit on the bottom.
4. For lunch until dinner I will enjoy having something to lick. Why not a lollipop? Why not seven?
a. Between licks, I may place the lollipop on your grandmother's Turkish rug. This will be ok by you.
5. For dinner I will have macaroni and cheese. Any attempts to give me vegetables in addition to the macaroni and cheese will result in tears.
a. And don't you hide anything in the cheese sauce, because, my God, how you will rue the day.
6. After dinner, you may provide me with ice cream.
a. No frozen yogurt. Trust me, I know the difference.

II. TELEVISION
1. The TV will be on all the time, unless I say differently. You are to sit by my side, quietly, hands folded in lap, will I watch my shows.
a. You may arise to fetch me a snack.
2. No diaper changing or pleas to engage in physical activity will be tolerated during watching of television.
3. Turning off the television will result in much kicking and screaming.

III. TOYS
1. There will be many.
a. They will always be strewn about the house so that I may simply reach down and pick up a toy, no matter where I am.
b. They will be loud, complicated, and contain many small pieces. I enjoy shooting noises that go w-shoooop! or zim zim zim.
c. Nothing that results in any type of learning, please.

IV. FRIENDS
1. They should be available whenever I'm in the mood to use someone else's toys or ingest someone else's cookies.
a. These friends may not ever so much as look at my toys or cookie supply.
b. Ever, ever, ever.

V. SLEEP
1. Is when I say, where I say, and how I say. If I want to sleep upside down with my legs locked around your neck, then thats how it will be.
a. And you will enjoy it.

VI. AFFECTION
1. Occasionally I enjoy being hugged and kissed. I stress occasionally.
2. I will not be pelted with wet mouthed assaults on an hourly basis. Should you feel the need to hug or kiss, you must provide me with a written request.
a. And then wait for me to offer my pudgy cheeks."

Sick Baby= Sick Mama

So Emma has had her first big bout with an illness. I feel like such a bad mama for "letting" her get that sick. Day care= boosted immune system (aka: many rounds of illnesses).

Let me just say, having a baby is hard work... having a sick baby is hell.

Of course she was irritable, she didn't feel good. Of course I was irritable, Emma didn't feel good.

Emma started running fever on Friday. By that afternoon, she "seemed" a little better. She cried all day Saturday. Not enough to make me rush her to the ER, but enough to make me seriously crazy. Sunday started off good, but the fever came raging back. Clinton and I took her to the pediatrician Monday morning, and we got the verdict. Double infections PLUS a rash caused by the infections... poor, poor baby. The doc diagnosed her with an ear infection (but she hadn't been pulling at her ear...isn't that the tell-tale sign??) and an upper respitory infection. So we loaded up on antibiotics and went home. Once the antibiotics were in her system, she was like brand new! I think she felt so much better... why didn't I just take her to the doctor Friday??

To top things off, I woke up yesterday morning (Tuesday) with a fever. Was there any doubt that I would catch what Em had... no!

Let's Get This Started

So my name is Kayla Belcher Cheatwood. I am married to Clinton Cheatwood. On Halloween of last year, we were blessed with our own little pumpkin, Emma Lee Cheatwood. This blog will be about our lives as new parents, experiencing life with Emma. Yes. It is a little late to get started. She is almost 8 months old. Hey, I've been busy! I am also in the process of going back to school to get my teaching certificate so some of that drama may get thrown in here. So check it out!
